This job opening is an opportunity to become an integral part of the in-house legal team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. We are seeking an attorney with 4 -8 years of legal experience to join a dynamic team of lawyers that provides research, legal advice, and counsel on a variety of topics and issues. This individual will work with many internal client departments and with individuals from all levels of the organization, as well with legal colleagues from other Reserve Banks and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Job Summary :

This position is responsible for providing legal advice to various business areas of the Bank, with a particular focus on contracting, business law and general corporate matters. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated aptitude for and the willingness to learn other areas of the law and a clear willingness to assist colleagues in other practice areas where needed.

Principal Accountabilities :

Conduct legal research, prepare legal memoranda, and render legal counsel and advice to internal clients related to assigned areas of responsibility. Structure, draft, negotiate and review contracts, service agreements and requests for proposals and other procurement documents, including memoranda of understanding, training materials, policies and complex agreements, NDAs, licenses, website terms of use. Provide advice and strategic support to the legal department and to the Bank's business leaders regarding a range corporate areas. Participate in creating and delivering training related to corporate law matters and other relevant issues in specified areas of responsibility, as may be appropriate. Undertake assignments as needed on various legal matters. Participate in select System workgroups and work on other special projects. Assist the other attorneys with their System responsibilities. Serve as in-house counsel to other departments or areas in the Bank as may be assigned/requested from time to time. Respond to inquiries from public and legal professionals, and speak publicly, on matters/areas of responsibility. Work with lawyers and staff of the Board of Governors and other Reserve Banks on matters and issues related to areas of responsibility or as otherwise assigned/requested.

Supervision :

This position is not required to directly supervise others.

Knowledge and Experience :

Knowledge and experience normally acquired through, or equivalent to, the completion of a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school, admission to the Massachusetts Bar, or eligibility and commitment to seek and obtain admission by motion to the Massachusetts Bar within 90 days of employment, and 4-8 years of relevant general commercial, corporate law experience required. Preferred qualifications include: strong drafting, negotiating and analytic, written and oral communication skills; ability to juggle multiple client requests and needs and to adjust priorities; ability to think creatively and strategically; strong attention to detail; receptivity to continuous learning; a proactive approach to recognizing needs, anticipate issues, and solving problems; a self-starter approach, eager to learn new areas of the law and committed to understanding the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Federal Reserve System. General in-house corporate law or agency experience could be a plus.
